A busy Ahwatukee intersection came to a stop Saturday night when a woman was hit and killed while crossing the street.
A driver reportedly called police after striking a woman near 48th Street and Ray Road around 9:45 p.m.
The Phoenix Police Department identified the woman as Nina Hale, 68.
Police questioned and released the driver of the Mazda Miata from the scene after the collision. Police say the driver did not show any signs of impairment and did stay at the scene.
The woman was reportedly crossing the street mid-block and was not in a crosswalk when the incident happened.
Hale was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, Phoenix police said.
