Firefighters from Phoenix and Tempe worked to get a mountain biker to the hospital after he hit his head on South Mountain on Monday.

Crews responded before 11 a.m. to Mormon Trail after firefighters say a 37-year-old man hit his head while riding with friends.

Officials said his bike flipped and the man hit his head on a rock, knocking him out. Due to the possibility of underlying trauma, responders decided to airlift the man to the hospital.

He was hospitalized in stable condition, firefighters said.
