A fire that sparked Thursday in eastern Arizona has grown to more than 2,200 acres.

Officials with Arizona State Forestry said Friday afternoon the fire was now 2,285 acres and 40% contained. Previously, officials said the fire was 700 acres and 80% contained, and credited the revisions to an improvement in mapping for the incident.

The fire is burning along Highway 60 between Vernon and Eagar, and handful of crews remained on the scene to monitor and mop up the flames.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation, officials said.
