A former Bullhead City police sergeant convicted of sexual assault has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The Kingman Daily Miner reports 38-year-old Jesse Samuel Hoag was sentenced Friday after being found guilty of two counts of sexual assault.

The 11-year veteran officer is accused of taking a student from Mohave Community College, where he taught a class, to a Laughlin bar in October 2014 and assaulting her in a parking lot.

Hoag was arrested a month later for trying to sexually assault another woman in a vehicle outside a Laughlin bar. No charges were filed in that case.

Hoag's attorney asked for a shorter sentence based on his client's police and military service. But the judge denied the request, giving him the maximum sentence allowed under law.
