Grand Canyon Lodge employee accuses co-worker of sex assault

Posted

An employee of the only lodge on the Grand Canyon's North Rim is facing charges he sexually assaulted and choked a co-worker.

A federal judge in Flagstaff ordered a conditional release Wednesday for Jeremy Ean Bird.

The 25-year-old has been indicted on eight counts related to sexual abuse.

According to a criminal complaint, Bird and the victim were drinking with other Grand Canyon Lodge colleagues Aug. 3.

The victim alleges she helped Bird to his room and he became aggressive.

She says he pinned her wrists and forced her into sexual acts.

She reported the attack to the National Park Service.

Rangers say she underwent a medical exam and there was probable cause to arrest Bird.

A public defender representing Bird was not immediately available to comment Thursday.
