Arizona's largest ski area was hoping to have its opening day on Friday, the earliest date ever for the Flagstaff resort.

But the high pressure system hanging over western states has delayed the opening dates for many ski areas including the Arizona Snowbowl.

Nightly temperatures above freezing in Flagstaff have made it difficult for snowmaking crews to make enough snow on opening trails.

Snowbowl officials continue to monitor temperatures and plan to open the popular ski resort as soon as conditions allow.

They are now targeting Nov. 18 for opening day, if temperatures allow.
