A man posing as a police captain in Scottsdale scammed a woman out of more than $17,000 and he could be out to do it again.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, an elderly woman received a call on Feb. 22 from the man who said he was a captain with a special investigative unit.

He was talking with her about her recent transactions and said her money was counterfeit and that she needed to hand it over to police.

The victim was instructed to withdraw $17,500 and deliver the cash to him outside of an auto parts store. At that time, the man reportedly showed her a fake silver badge and told her to go home to await more information.

Unfortunately, police have yet to get the culprit off the streets.

He is described as a dark-skinned man about 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 250 pounds. He was clean-shaven at the time and was wearing a black short-sleeved button-down shirt.

If you have any information, contact police at 480-312-5000.
