The Scottsdale Police Department has identified Officer Wilmer Fernandez-Kafati as the officer who shot and killed 24-year-old Dylan Liberti outside a grocery store on July 27.
Police were called to the area of 92nd Street and Shea Boulevard for calls of a man acting “erratically.”
Police say the man ran from officers and was refusing to comply with commands. Liberti allegedly pulled out a knife before he was shot by Officer Fernandez-Kafati.
Officer Fernandez-Kafati has been with the Scottsdale Police Department for one year. He was placed on non-disciplinary leave after the shooting.
No officers were hurt in the incident.
