The Scottsdale Police Department says they have made an arrest in a 2015 hit and run that killed 65-year-old Dr. Robert Arceci.
Police say 26-year-old Ruben Santiago-Lopez was driving a landscaping truck at the time, when he hit and killed Arceci on a motorcycle on June 8, 2015.
An arrest warrant was issued for Santiago-Lopez, but detectives quickly learned he had fled to Mexico. After 15 months, Santiago-Lopez turned himself in at the Nogales, Arizona Port of Entry.
He was brought to Maricopa County Tuesday and faces charges for failing to remain at the scene of a fatal crash, and causing death by use of a vehicle.
Arceci was doctor at Phoenix Children's Hospital. At the time of his death, the hospital released the following statement:
"The tragic and sudden loss of Dr. Arceci has touched the Phoenix Children’s family deeply," said Meyer. "He would have loved to be part of this celebration today and he deserves much credit for leading the Center for Cancer and Blood disorders to an impressive ranking of 16th in the nation on the US News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals list."
