A 39-year-old man is behind bars facing charges of sexual abuse after allegedly touching a young girl a year earlier.
Scottsdale police received a delayed report on Dec. 28, 2015 about an 11-year-old who claimed a man had touched her inappropriately a year earlier, according to court paperwork.
The victim told detectives that the man, later identified as Andres Deras Cruz, then 38, had hugged the victim from behind and touched her breasts, records say.
Cruz was arrested on Jan. 6.
In an interview with detectives, Cruz admitted to walking up behind the girl while she was in the bathroom and put his hands under her shirt and touched her chest. He admitted to knowing the girl was 11 and then wrote an apology letter to the girl in front of the detectives, police said in court documents.
He was booked into jail on one count of felony sexual abuse.
