Police are on the hunt for a suspect who escaped custody at a Scottsdale hospital Friday and carjacked a woman at a nearby intersection.
Sgt. Ben Hoster said 27-year-old Rodolfo Avalos was in Salt River Police custody at Honor Health after an incident Friday morning. The officer left Avalos handcuffed to the bed briefly, watched by a hospital security guard, when Avalos was able to escape from custody.
Avalos ran from the hospital and carjacked a woman at Osborn Road and Drinkwater.
According to Hoster, the woman exited her Lexus SUV and Avalos took off from the scene.
The woman was not injured in the incident.
Police are continuing to search for Avalos.
