SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A man accused of stabbing two women in Scottsdale Tuesday night is being identified.

Scottsdale police arrested 33-year-old Roy Hayden Aja. He is being held on multiple counts of aggravated assault.

Both victims were stabbed multiple time and are listed in serious condition.

Officers were called to the scene near 64th Street and McDowell Road around 9 p.m.

Aja was immediately identified as a suspect and was taken into custody without incident, according to Scottsdale Police Sgt. Ben Hoster.

Authorities say Aja has a history of mental illness and attacked the women inside the home without provocation.

They have been identified as Aja's sister and an acquaintance.

The exact nature of Aja's mental illness is unclear, it's also unclear if the attacks were part of a mental episode.
