Scottsdale police say a man has been taken to the hospital after driving into a canal near 78th Street and Lincoln Drive overnight.

Police say the man drove through a stop sign, over a pedestrian path, through a railing and into the canal.

The man was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive.

Police say impairment is being investigated as a possible factor.

It took rescue crews most of the morning to get the car hooked up to a tow truck and get it out of the water, but it has been removed.
