A person has died after suffering a medical condition in the Scottsdale City Jail.
Police said Romero Slim was arrested by Phoenix police officers on Friday, June 10 on an outstanding warrant from Scottsdale police.
Slim was booked into the Scottsdale jail just after 6:30 p.m. and placed in a cell with other detainees. Forty-five minutes later, police said inmates alerted jail staff that Slim was not breathing. Detention officers began CPD, used an AED and called the Scottsdale Fire Department, police said.
Slim, who officials said weighed 300 pounds, was taken to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m.
Scottsdale police said Slim was not combative with officers at any point and no force was used on him while in custody.
Authorities said there is an ongoing investigation into how he died.
