Maricopa County officials have recovered the body of a man who drowned at Apache Lake early Sunday morning.

The man, identified as 37-year-old Rodolfo Ruiz, reportedly entered the water and was seen struggling as he swam out to a buoy.

Sheriff's deputies began searching by boat around 3 a.m. Sunday. Divers were called and searched throughout the day, but his body was not recovered until Monday morning.

Ruiz's sister-in-law reported that he was missing after a fight with his wife during the night. His wife told deputies he was using drugs and had been drinking all day Saturday.

MCSO said there were no signs of foul play in Ruiz's death.

Ruiz was found in the area he was last seen by a witness; the man was in 26 feet of water. No trauma or injuries were revealed by a visual body exam by MCSO. Foul play is not suspected and his death is being investigated as a drowning.
