Border officers say two Yuma residents have been arrested after trying to smuggle methamphetamine into the country over the weekend.

A 24-year-old woman trying to enter via the pedestrian lanes at the Port of San Luis on Friday was referred for further inspection. Authorities say she had three ounces of meth concealed inside her body.

On Sunday, authorities questioned the 35-year-old male driver of a Chevrolet SUV and conducted an additional search. A Customs and Border Protection canine signaled the presence of narcotics within the vehicle's spare tire.

Officers found multiple packages of meth totaling nearly 30 pounds, according to a news release from CBP. Authorities estimated the drugs seized were worth $900,000.

Both suspects were handed over to Homeland Security Investigations, a branch within Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
