TUCSON, AZ — A Tucson man charged with the sexual assault of a petting zoo pony has been identified as the person who tried to steal an ATM from a Wyoming gas station.

According to the Cheyenne Police Department, Jacob Blatchford, 37, of Tucson attempted to steal an ATM from a Sinclair gas station on August 4, 2018. Blatchford allegedly used an excavator to break through the outer glass of the gas station and attempted to rip the ATM out of the floor from the store.

Blatchford, who brought his dog along with him, fled the scene when the alarms activated.

On August 13, police say Blatchford was arrested in Pima County on charges of sexually assaulting a petting zoo pony and burglary.

Cheyenne police were able to establish the connection when comparing the pictures of the crime scenes and identified Blatchford's dog from his arrest in Arizona.

Blatchford remains in custody in Pima County on a $50,000 cash bond.
