Remains found may be linked to missing AZ woman

Posted

Skeletal remains recovered by Cochise County Search and Rescue may be identified as a 64-year-old McNeal woman who has been missing since her car got stranded in high water in a wash in September.

Joan Buttner has been missing since Sep. 19 when she called a friend to say her car was in water up to her door after she drove on a gravel road east of Sierra Vista.

The Sierra Vista Herald reports that a search and rescue team recovered skeletal remains Saturday from a riverbed west of Tombstone.

The Pima County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the identity of the remains.

Authorities speculated that the remains may be connected to Buttner as they were consistent with a female about the same size.
