Maricopa Police Department says two men are dead after a barricade situation at a home on Saturday.

An armed man reportedly barricaded himself inside a home near WIndrose Drive and Alterra Parkway around 4:30 p.m.

Police first came to the house after a shots fired call. Once on scene, they learned a man had been shot and a woman and two kids were still inside with the shooter.

Both children and the woman were able to run outside to safety after officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the home.

For five hours, officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect inside the home, who was later identified as the woman's ex-husband. Around 11:30 p.m., the suspect was found dead inside with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A second man with several gunshot wounds was also found dead inside the home.

Police say nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution during the incident.

Police also say the woman had a long history of domestic violence with the suspect that she never reported to anyone.

The names of those involved have not yet been released.
