Casa Grande police said its search for a suspect accused of shooting an off-duty officer and another person has ended after the man was found dead on Wednesday afternoon.
In a tweet, Casa Grande police said 37-year-old Juan Pablo Rodriguez-Fregoso was found dead in Mesa. Police said in the tweet that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said two victims were hurt in the shooting, including an officer who was off-duty at the time. That officer was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. Police said the officer is listed in serious condition.
The other person, a citizen who works at the police station, was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
Wednesday afternoon, police officers from multiple agencies and the U.S. Marshalls Task Force descended on a vehicle along the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near Dobson Road . That is where the suspect was apparently found.
Authorities have not identified the victims.
Several schools in the area were on lockdown as a precaution but that lockdown has since been lifted.
