Weekend travel alert (May 17-20): Freeways and ramps will be impacted

Weekend construction will cause lane restrictions and shut down parts of I-10, Loop 101, Loop 303, I-17 and US-60, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

  • Eastbound Interstate 10 (toward Phoenix) narrowed to two lanes in areas between Verrado Way and Loop 303 from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (May 18) for pavement improvements. Expect temporary intermittent ramp closures as the work progresses, including closures of the eastbound I-10 ramps to north- and southbound Loop 303. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time. Alternate routes include eastbound Yuma Road, Van Buren Street or McDowell Road. If a ramp is temporarily closed, plan on using a ramp at an adjacent interchange.
  • Eastbound Interstate 10 (toward Phoenix) narrowed to one lane in areas between Verrado Way and Loop 303 from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (May 11) for pavement improvements. Expect intermittent ramp closures as the work progresses. Please allow extra travel time. DETOUR: Alternate routes include eastbound Yuma Road, Van Buren Street or McDowell Road. If a ramp is temporarily closed, plan on using a ramp at an adjacent interchange.
  • Eastbound Interstate 10 (toward Phoenix) scheduled closure between 83rd and 51st avenues for rubberized asphalt paving has been postponed due to cooler temperatures. The work will be rescheduled, but a time-frame has yet to be provided.
  • Westbound Interstate 10 (toward Los Angeles) narrowed to one lane in areas between Loop 303 and Verrado Way from 10 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday (May 19) for pavement improvements. Expect temporary intermittent ramp closures as the work progresses, including closures of the Loop 303 ramps to westbound I-10. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time. Alternate routes include westbound Yuma Road, Van Buren Street or McDowell Road. If a ramp is temporarily closed, plan on using a ramp at an adjacent interchange.
  • East- and westbound I-10 ramps to northbound I-17 at the “Stack” interchange closed from 9:30 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (May 19) for Cox Communications overhead line installation. I-17 also closed intermittently up to 20 minutes each time between Indian School and Thomas roads. Northbound I-17 on-ramps at McDowell and Thomas roads and southbound on-ramp at Indian School Road closed. Expect restrictions at times along I-17 frontage roads. Westbound I-10 on-ramp at Seventh Avenue closed. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes. State Route 51 is an alternate freeway route. NOTE: Approximately 5 intermittent closures of I-17 are planned between the hours listed above.
  • Southbound I-17 off-ramp at 16th Street closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Sunday (May 19) for bridge maintenance. Northbound 16th Street left two lanes closed near I-17 with no access to northbound I-17 on-ramp. NOTE: Southbound Seventh Street left two lanes also closed near I-17 with no access to southbound I-17 on-ramp. DETOUR: Consider alternate routes, including southbound I-17 off-ramp at Seventh Street.
  • Eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) off-ramp at Val Vista Drive closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (May 20) for city of Mesa project. DETOUR: Consider alternate routes, including the eastbound US 60 exits at Gilbert or Greenfield roads.
