Expect closures on Loop 101 and I-10 this weekend, along with other restrictions.

Remember, NASCAR is in town, and traffic tends to get congested on Avondale Boulevard. The 31st Annual Ostrich Festival is taking place in the east Valley, so expect potential delays in the area as well.

Here's what the Arizona Department of Transportation posted on their weekend travel advisory:

  • Westbound Loop 101 closed between Cave Creek Road and Seventh Street in north Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (March 11) for placement of temporary barrier and lane-stripe adjustments as part of a freeway widening project. Drivers should expect heavy traffic and try to avoid the closure if possible. DETOUR: To limit delays, consider exiting ahead of the closure (before Cave Creek Road) and using alternate routes. Alternate routes include southbound Tatum Boulevard to westbound Union Hills Drive. Consider westbound Deer Valley Road as another alternate route. Northbound SR 51 drivers should avoid traveling to westbound Loop 101 and instead consider an alternate route, including westbound Union Hills Drive.
  • Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between 67th and 51st avenues in west Phoenix from 9 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday (March 9) for construction of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange. Eastbound I-10 on-ramps at 91st, 83rd, 79th and 75th avenues also closed. DETOUR: Expect heavy traffic and delays. Consider alternate routes, including northbound and Loop 101 in the West Valley. Traffic exiting at 75th Avenue will be detoured to eastbound Van Buren Street or McDowell Road, as well as the eastbound I-10 access road.
  • Northbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) off-ramp and southbound on-ramp at Broadway Road in east Mesa closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday (March 9) for pavement repairs. Eastbound US 60 ramp to northbound Loop 202 narrowed to one lane. DETOUR: Please use alternate routes, including the Loop 202 ramps at University Drive.
  • Interstate 10 restricted briefly in both directions near Baseline Road in Tempe during the hours of 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday (March 10) for Salt River Project overhead line installation. A “rolling closure” lasting up to 20 minutes will be used in both directions during the hours listed above. HOV lanes in the area also will be closed briefly. The eastbound I-10 off-ramp and westbound on-ramp at Baseline Road also will be restricted during the installation work. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and be prepared for slowing or stopped traffic.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend!
