DPS operation nets 40 arrests, 3K pounds pot

Forty people were arrested and over 3,000 pounds of marijuana seized in the latest law enforcement operation.

'Operation Sidewinder' was conducted between Feb. 4 and 7 by the Arizona Department of Public Safety Border Strike Force Bureau in Maricopa and Pinal counties.

The operation resulted in 12 traffic stops, 40 arrests and 3,743 pounds of marijuana, according to a media release. Three vehicles, an assault rifle and a handgun were also seized.

Of those arrested, 34 were determined to be citizens of Mexico, five were from the United States and one person was from another country.
