Rep. Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., will resign from Congress after pleading guilty to tax evasion, The New York Daily News reports.

Grimm had been defiant, saying he would continue to serve in Congress despite being a convicted felon. That changed after he met with Speaker of the House John Boehner Monday, The Associated Press reports.

Grimm, elected to represented the New York City borough of Staten Island in 2010, was re-elected in 2014 despite being indicted.

He pled guilty to aiding in the filing of a false tax return.
