Everyone likes a good life hack, especially if it means saving you time and money in the long run.

When you are at the grocery store, avoid getting a cart, use a basket instead. You’re more likely to buy less, ultimately saving you more.

Also, when you’re at the store, buy store brand, and not name brands. That might seem like common sense, because everyone knows store brand is cheaper. But, Consumer Reports just did a study saying that each item is 25% cheaper if you buy store brand. That will save you thousands of dollars a year.

At home, check your refrigerator. They say the biggest energy loss comes from having old seals on your refrigerator. To see if you need new ones, stick a dollar bill in the door. Once you shut the door, try to pull the dollar out. If the dollar pulls out, that means the seals need to be changed.

Another life hack is in the laundry room. Before you throw your jeans in the dryer, zip them up first. The metal zippers are like jaws eating away at your clothes as they tumble around the dryer.

Finally, when you head to the ATM, pull out a $100 bill, not a $20. You’ll actually end up spending less. It’s a psychological thing, you wouldn’t want to break a beautiful $100 bill would you.
