Former Rep. Gabby Giffords, a survivor of gun violence, said today she is "sickened" by the fatal attack on British Member of Parliament Jo Cox.

Cox, a member of the Labour Party, was shot and stabbed and a 52-year-old man was arrested.

Giffords is a well-known advocate of gun safety after being shot in the head in a 2011 assassination attempt while she was back home in Arizona.

She shared her grief on Twitter, posting: "Absolutely sickened to hear of the assassination of Jo Cox. She was young, courageous, and hardworking. A rising star, mother, and wife." she tweeted.

Tributes have come in from politicians including U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz also posted about Cox's death on Twitter and offered condolences to her friends and family.

"What awful news. On behalf of the entire Democratic Party, our condolences to the Cox family and the UK," Wasserman Schultz posted.
