COOKEVILLE, Tennessee — Less than a year after a Tennessee family adopted a senior dog named Mojo, he became its hero.

While her daughter, Isabelle, was out of town, Heather Thomas was woken up early one morning to Mojo barking frantically. She reluctantly got up and quickly realized her home was on fire.

The blaze started on the back porch, and Mojo was the only alarm that went off.

The fire spread so fast, the home was engulfed in flames in mere minutes.

Thankfully, Mojo alerted Heather in time to get them both, as well as another dog, out the door in the nick of time.

Mojo's heroic story reached the Petco Foundation's Holiday Wishes Campaign, which awarded Mojo's family on Friday.

They received a $10,000 grant to give back to the rescue where they adopted him — AARF in Putnam County.
