Patricia Castro, who was married to former Arizona Gov. Raul H. Castro, died after a battle with kidney disease at age 94.

Patricia and Raul Castro married in 1959, when Raul was a Pima County Superior Court judge. He went on to serve as the state's first and only Latino governor from 1975 to 1977, and later as a U.S. ambassador. He died in 2015 at age 98.

Before her marriage to Castro, Patricia was married to fighter pilot William Norris, who died in the Korean War.

Patricia Castro's causes included efforts to protect the legacy of the Navajo code talkers, as well as promoting arts and culture. She also created the USS Arizona tea service exhibit at the State Capitol.

Castro is survived by her daughter, Beth Castro, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family asks that donations -- in lieu of flowers -- be made to the University of Arizona Law School's Raul H. Castro Scholarship Fund by calling 626-1330 or emailing moleary@email.arizona.edu. Condolence notes can be sent to Castrobeth86@yahoo.com or Box 1443, Tubac, AZ, 85646.

There is no public service planned.
