Elf joins the police force in Pennsylvania

This elf isnt doing sneaky work at home, but rather helping police.

You know the traditional "Elf on the Shelf" who sits in interesting and sneaky places in your home, but in Pennsylvania there's an elf on the force!

"Sarge" is the newest officer sworn in to the West Manheim Township Police Department.

The officer is taking his oath very seriously, like conducting official police investigations and even finding a few leads on Facebook. He's even tased a stuffed lion, maxed out the police chief's credit cards, and has even been a part of a ride-along!

The goal of using Sarge, the "scout elf" is to get more followers onto the police's Facebook page who may otherwise not like a police page, officials said.

"When we need the community's help in a situation, we already have that base of followers built up."

After Christmas, Sarge will be heading back to the North Pole, but he'll surely have a spot on the force next year.
