University of Arizona police evacuated McClelland Hall on the University of Arizona campus Tuesday due to a suspicious package.

Campus officials sent out an alert about the suspicious package in the 11 a.m. hour.

Around 12:45 p.m., another alert was sent out that the Tucson Police bomb squad had given the building the all clear.

McClelland Hall is located at 1130 E. Helen Street. Police were investigating a possible pipe bomb.

UAPD in collaboration with the Tucson Police Department determined that two suspicious objects were found in the building. Police say the two objects were fake bombs used in a research project that is related to national security.

Police were able to determine that the devices were harmless.

The objects resembled pipe bombs and were left unattended in a research laboratory where they were discovered and reported. UAPD is planning to work with the researchers to prevent a recurrence of the event.
