WWll vet battles insurer over denied claim

If your roof is leaking, you want it fixed quickly.

But don't act too quickly or you could end up like one Valley man.

Will Ennis was a WWll pilot, shot down in the Philippines

We got together over a different battle: his insurer denied a claim.

Will says he thought his roof would collapse after a big storm.

So he hired a roofer to make repairs.

He did that before he contacted his insurance company.

His insurer, Farmer's Insurance, says they needed pictures of the damage.

But the repairs had already been made and the company paid.

They denied Will's $1,200 claim saying the damage was not caused by the storm.

So, Will called the Let Joe Know helpline and talked with the Assistance League of Phoenix volunteers.

Since Will had an invoice showing the repairs done, we asked Farmer's to reconsider.

And they did.

They sent out another inspector and this time, they decided Will had a valid claim.

He got back all of the money he'd been seeking.

It's understandable that Farmer's or any insurance company would want proof of damage before paying a claim.

And it's written in the Farmer's policy.

If your home suffers similar damage, make sure to take pictures, get 3 estimates from licensed contractors and follow your insurance policy instructions before hiring anyone.

Thanks to Farmer's Insurance for reconsidering.
