A man is accused of hitting a pedestrian in Phoenix and dragging her before she was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On March 8, witnesses allegedly saw 34-year-old Leonard Patrick Allen hit a woman with his car in the area of 29th and Dunlap avenues.

She was transported to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition, with a broken pelvis and two broken thighs.

Witnesses pursued Allen as he reportedly left the accident scene, crashing his car in the library parking lot, nearby.

When officers arrived, Allen got out of the car and was swaying, court paperwork said. Police say he had a strong odor of alcohol, his eyes were bloodshot and he spoke as if he had a "thick tongue."

During an interview with investigators, Allen allegedly admitted to drinking and driving but explained that he did not know he hit anyone.

He’s been charged with aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a serious accident.
