Police seize 30 pounds of meth, thousands of fentanyl pills during traffic stop near Cottonwood

COTTONWOOD, AZ — Police seized approximately 30 pounds of methamphetamine and thousands of fentanyl pills during a recent traffic stop near Cottonwood.

The Cottonwood Police Department says they, along with Williams PD, conducted a traffic stop on October 7 along I-17 near milepost 272.

During the stop, when police asked 33-year-old Jose German-Barraza to step out of the vehicle, he allegedly fled from officers on foot.

At the same time, the passenger, 29-year-old Juan Cuadras-Cuadras, fled from the vehicle as well.

Both men were taken into custody a short time later.

During a vehicle search, police say 30 pounds of methamphetamine, thousands of fentanyl pills, and more than $3,600 in cash was located inside the vehicle.

Both men denied any knowledge of the drugs.

German-Barraza and Cuadras-Cuadras were booked into the Yavapai County Detention Center for several felonies related to the transportation and sale of dangerous.

Police say in total, the drugs seized have a street value between $200,000 and $300,000.
