Mesa residents attacked an armed trespasser with a bat to get him out of their home.

Mesa police report that on April 2 a man, later identified as 30-year-old Edward Hill, approached a home near Val Vista Drive and Broadway Road, believing someone inside had stolen from him.

Police say after a verbal confrontation at the door, Hill "forced his way into the house and drew a gun."

Hill reportedly continued to demand his items be returned as he pointed the handgun at the residents. One victim was able to grab a baseball bat and strike Hill on the arm while another wrestled the gun away.

They were then able to push Hill out of the home.

Police located and arrested Hill at his home nearby. Hill admitted going into the home but said he was invited. However, police say he did admit to striking one of the victim’s with the gun.

Hill has been charged with criminal trespassing.
