Police looking for man seen stealing cell phone before attacking bystanders with knife

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are asking for the public's help to track down a man who was caught on camera stealing a cell phone and reportedly attacking two bystanders with a knife after they confronted him.

Police say the incident happened around 10 a.m. Saturday when the man walked into JR's Cellular store, located on 37th Avenue and McDowell Road. Surveillance video shows the man trying to take a cell phone that was on display and tries to leave the store with part of the display that included the phone.

As he tried to leave, police said he was confronted at the door by bystanders when he allegedly pulled a knife out and cut one of the victims on the head. He also allegedly tried to stab a second person, according to police.

Authorities said the man then fled the scene and left the display behind.

The man is described as a 25-year-old Hispanic male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black hoodie with gray stars, dark pants, and black shoes.
