PHX PD: Family dog alerts woman to home intruder

PHOENIX — A woman's dog alerted her to an intruder allowing her time to escape, according to police.

Phoenix police report that on February 28, they responded to a home near 35th and Peoria avenues for a reported burglar.

About 11 p.m., a woman's dog woke her and alerted her to a stranger in her backyard. The woman went out of the front door and contacted the police. When officers arrived, she opened the garage door to allow them to enter the home. Police soon found Adrian Victor Hoffman, 41, in the hallway of the house.

Hoffman was on probation on a previous conviction for aggravated assault, according to court records. He was soon arrested.

He has been charged with criminal trespassing.
