PHOENIX — A woman is accused of stealing nearly 500 key fobs from Avis rental cars in Phoenix.

Phoenix police report that on December 2, officers arrested 24-year-old Reina Maria Escobedo at her home near 19th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

The previous day, officers were called to Avis Budget Group near 16th Street and Buckeye Road for a reported theft. Avis security staff showed police surveillance video, which reportedly shows Escobedo stealing key fobs from the business. Escobedo worked at the facility as cleaning personnel, according to the police.

Avis staff believed this had been going on for several months. The number of key fobs stolen is estimated to be 462, with a value of over $96,000.

Upon her arrest, Escobedo allegedly admitted to planning the theft with a family member. The key fobs were not found when police raided her home. She believes the family member has them and is trying to sell the fobs.

She has been charged with theft.
