A man recently fell through the ceiling of a Chandler Dunkin Donuts during an attempted burglary.

Chandler police report that about 3 a.m. on July 18, an employee at the Dunkin Donuts store near Arizona Avenue and Warner Road arrived to make the donuts.

The employee found, "the front door unlocked, the ceiling caved in and blood strewn about the kitchen area."

Police discovered that the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Matthew Jacob O'Connor, gained access to the roof, damaged three air-conditioning units, before crawling through the ductwork.

Police say O'Connor cut himself in the ventilation shaft. They allegedly found shoes, a crowbar, binoculars and a Dunkin Donuts hat inside.

O'Connor reportedly fell through the ceiling, landing in the kitchen area. During repairs of the ventilation shaft, a worker allegedly found O'Connor's wallet.

O'Connor, a previous employee of Dunkin Donuts, was located and arrested the next day, at his home in Mesa.

The repair estimate to the store is estimated to be between $15,000 and $18,000.

O'Connor, who is already on probation, has been charged with burglary and criminal damage.
