A man armed with a knife and machete threatened to "cut their heads off."

Phoenix police report that on July 26 they were called to a home near 27th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

A witness said they left home after seeing 20-year-old Hector Manuel Meza threaten other family members with a knife and a machete.

She reportedly told police that she saw Meza, "hold the knife up to her grandmother's neck while saying he was going to cut her head off."

While the witness escaped, the grandmother and another family member barricaded themselves in a bedroom, hoping the police would get there before Meza could break the door down.

Meza reportedly denied making any threats or holding any weapons.

He has been charged with aggravated assault.
