A north Phoenix man is accused of abusing his blind, wheelchair-bound girlfriend over the past two years.
Phoenix Police say 36-year-old Julio Almanzar was arrested yesterday at his home near 35th and Dunlap avenues.
Police say on Sept. 30, Almanzar allegedly hit the woman on the head and punched her leg, causing her to fall out of her wheelchair. He then put her back into her wheelchair by grabbing her neck.
The victim reportedly told police that he did this because he was angry at her for accidentally breaking his glasses.
During their investigation police say they believe Almanzar has been abusing his girlfriend for the past two years, causing black eyes, bruises and cuts.
Almanzar was arrested for aggravated assault and vulnerable adult abuse.
