Resourceful Mesa residents evaded a burglar last week by fleeing to a neighborhood fire station, according to officials.
Mesa police report that in the early morning hours of July 31, they received a call of a home burglary in process.
Police responded to the residence near Mesa Drive and Main Street, where they found 42-year-old Virgilio Valenzuela Arguelles.
The residents, hearing Arguellas enter the home, escaped through a bedroom window and fled to a nearby fire station.
Arguellas was found in the backyard of the home with a cut hand. Police say they also found a broken window where Arguellas had cut himself.
He has been charged with criminal damage and trespassing.
