Information from a Mesa shoplifting lead police to a man involved to a hit-and-run.

Mesa police report that on March 29, they arrested Francisco Xavier Bahena, 27, for a hit-and-run crash in February.

On February 16, a 67-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk near Sossaman Road and University Drive when he was hit from behind by a red Ford Explorer with no back window.

The victim suffered a broken pelvis, broken ribs and head injuries.

A witness reportedly told police that the Explorer stopped at first then left as the witness approached.

Police say, the following day a man stole a television from a Mesa Walmart. Security video reportedly shows the man placing the stolen TV in a red Ford Explorer with no back window.

Walmart security was able to identify the suspect as Bahena.

Police located the vehicle a few days later with the TV still inside and damaged to the front end of the SUV.

Police say the victim’s DNA was found on the hood of the Explorer.

Bahena has been charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident.
