CHANDLER, AZ — A Chandler man is behind bars after allegedly stealing a moving truck while another man, who was moving into a senior living facility, was inside the truck's cab.

According to a Chandler police report, on Aug. 14, 2019, a man told police he was helping move his 85-year-old father into the Brookdale Senior Living Facility near Dobson and Pecos roads when he noticed that the truck began to move and that his father was not the one driving.

Instead, it was allegedly carjacked by 28-year-old Marvin Smith, who drove the truck away with the back hatch still open and the loading ramp out.

The man told police that he told the suspect to stop several times. The suspect eventually stopped after driving about two miles away. The suspect allegedly stole a cell phone and left the older man in the truck.

Police located Smith near Price Road and Chandler Blvd. He was later charged with kidnapping and vehicle theft, according to police documents.
