Stolen cars recognized in several Valley armed robberies were linked to a carjacker arrested last week.

Phoenix police report that Joel Isaac Martinez was arrested on October 3 near Mesa Drive and Southern Avenue, driving a stolen white Mazda SUV.

Police say that vehicle was described in several armed robberies around the Valley.

Police allege that Martinez is also linked to the carjacking of a black 4-door Chevy Cruze, which was found burned in late September. Inside the charred vehicle, police say, they found evidence of several armed robberies.

Police report that Martinez was also a driver as an accomplice, 18-year-old James Slatton committed other armed robberies and carjackings.

Martinez is being held on a $100,000 cash bond for car theft and armed robbery. However, the investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.

Police believe the men are responsible for as many as 15 armed robberies in the Valley.
