A woman from California allegedly left her 4-year-old daughter next to a dumpster while she got her car to get away from shoplifting at Chandler Fashion Center.

Court records show that Nicole Nayshell Mack took her daughter with her to shoplift, then left her to get her car, and finally had her run across a busy street as they tried to escape.

Chandler police report that they were called to the Macy's Department Store at the Chandler Fashion Center near Price and Frye Roads on October 10 around 9 p.m.

Loss prevention officers for Macy's reported to police that a woman, later identified as Mack, left the store with her 4-year-old daughter after allegedly stealing about $100 worth of clothing.

Police say the child was abandoned at a dumpster as Mack went to get her car. Mack reportedly returned on foot to get her daughter. She encouraged her daughter to run after her, by yelling, "run baby, run." The girl ran after her mother trying to cross a busy mall street.

As she tried to cross the street, a security officer grabbed the child from the middle of the road. That's when Mack reportedly came back and punched the security guard. Police were able to restrain Mack and take her into custody.

She's been charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest and child abuse.
