TEMPE, AZ — The Scottsdale AutoNation dealership assisted in catching an employee accused of stealing vehicle batteries from UPS.

Tempe police report that between January 8 and 22, a total of 14 vehicle batteries were stolen from the UPS facility near McClintock Drive and Apache Boulevard.

Evidence of the thefts pointed to Cecilio Salazar, 38, who was working as a subcontractor for Ford AutoNation in Scottsdale, which works with UPS in obtaining vehicle parts. Salazar allegedly used his contractor status to gain access to restricted areas when he stole the 14 batteries over three occasions.

Police say the thefts were recorded on surveillance videos.

Court records show that Salazar admitted his actions when confronted by his supervisor. He returned the batteries on January 23 and was arrested by Tempe police.

He has been charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft.
