TEMPE, AZ — A man was arrested Thursday in connection to a 2017 child abuse that left a 3-month-old boy in critical condition.

On Thursday, Olin Gregory Weitzel was arrested outside a home near Dobson and Riggs roads on a Maricopa County Superior Court warrant for a 2017 child abuse case.

Court documents obtained by ABC15 reveal that on June 30, 2017 Weitzel was holding his 3-month-old son when he tripped and fell in his apartment near Kyrene and Guadalupe roads.

He took the child to an Urgent Care and was told the baby was fine and was given Tylenol for the pain.

Based on this, Weitzel's wife continued with her planned trip to Las Vegas.

The baby was still in pain the next day and was taken to Phoenix Children’s Hospital where doctors found a skull fracture and several other fractures in various state of healing.

Medical staff contacted police and reported that the boy was in extremely critical condition with a skull fracture, brain swelling, shoulder and rib fractures, and bruising.

Weitzel is scheduled to be arraigned on December 28.
