PHOENIX — A man was arrested Tuesday after reportedly starting a fire at a South Phoenix duplex that killed a family dog.

Phoenix police reportedly arrested 47-year-old Curtis Wayne Curtis near 7th Street and Broadway Road.

Early on the morning of February 12, police say Curtis allegedly started a fire on the porch of the duplex.

Phoenix Fire officials say the fire extended into the attic and began to go into the adjacent apartment.

Nine people were displaced by the fire, and one side of the duplex is considered a complete loss.

No people were injured in the incident; however, Phoenix fire officials say a family dog was killed in the blaze.

Curtis reportedly admitted to police that he started the fire. Police also say they found lighters in his possession when he was arrested.

Curtis will face charges of arson of an occupied structure.
