UPDATE: Teen boy charged in accidental shooting of 19-year-old girl

A 16-year-old boy is now being charged in the accidental shooting death of a teenage girl last Wednesday.

Police say the shooting occurred November 14 just before 6 p.m. in the area of 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road. 

According to Phoenix police, a 19-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound while inside of a vehicle. Her boyfriend reportedly told police that he was making a turn with the 16-year-old suspect in the backseat when he heard a gunshot.

He drove until he found a police car and pulled over for help.

She was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition and did not survive her injuries. 

Police say the 16-year-old boy was in the back seat, behind the girl. The boy later told police that, "he was in the backseat with a 'broken gun' and accidentally fired one shot." 

He has been charged with manslaughter. His identity hasn't been released because of his age. The victim's identity also hasn't been released.
