A roommate in Mesa attacked another roommate who was moving out by attacking them with a knife, hammer and bench weight.

Court records show that on July 6, a Mesa man was moving out of his apartment when his roommate attacked him. The man's friend, who was helping him move, thwarted all the attacks.

The apartments are near Dobson and Broadway roads in Mesa. The roommate who was moving out got into an argument with 38-year-old Derrick Thomas Gaddy over the ownership of some property.

Gaddy reportedly pulled out a knife and held it to the victim's throat. The victim's friend, who was there to help him move, disarmed Gaddy. Gaddy then allegedly knocked the victim down and was going to hit him with a bench weight when the victim's friend once again stepped in and took the weight away.

Gaddy then went to his truck, grabbed a hammer and made another threat, but instead hit the man with his other hand.

Police took Gaddy into custody and he's been charged with assault and aggravated assault.
